At TORC the CAT, we believe in the transformative power of stories to bring people together, inspire creativity, and spread joy. Our mission is simple yet profound: to make a lasting impact, one book at a time.
The Heart of the Mission
The #SMILESwithTORC initiative began in 2018 with a vision to share the magic of reading with children and families everywhere. Since then, we’ve donated over 6,600 TORC books to communities across the U.S. and Canada. From schools and hospitals to Little Free Libraries and charities, our goal is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover the joy of books.
Inspiring Through Storytelling
The TORC the CAT book series was inspired by the real-life adventures of TORC, an adventurous cat adopted from a Washington State shelter in 2009. Through his tales of curiosity and discovery, we aim to spark a love for reading, nurture imagination, and remind readers of all ages that every adventure starts with turning a page.
From 2018 to 2024, the #SMILESwithTORC initiative successfully donated 6,600* TORC books as part of its "Making a Difference, One Book at a Time!" campaign.
* 3,573 books reached 1070 Little Free Libraries across the USA and Canada, and another 3,027 books were donated to charities that help children, schools, and hospitals.
Reaching Communities Everywhere
With donations reaching 29 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, our campaign bridges the gap in access to books. In many areas where books are a rarity, #SMILESwithTORC provides children with the tools to dream bigger and learn more.
TORC the CAT has proven that a love for reading can be contagious, and with each paw step he takes, he brings the nation one step closer to a more literate and joyful future.

We don’t just donate books—we build connections. Through visits to Little Free Libraries, partnerships with local organizations, and engaging community events, TORC the CAT brings people together, creating a shared love for reading and learning.
