  • Grizzly bear is a subspecies of the brown bear.

  • Grizzly bears are omnivores which means they eat plants and animals. 75% of their diet is comprised of berries, leaves and nuts.

  • Grizzly bears hibernate for 5–7 months each year except where the climate is warm. For example, the California grizzly does not hibernate because it doesn’t get cold enough in its environment.

  • Grizzly bears need to eat a lot in the summer and fall in order to build up sufficient fat reserves to survive the winter denning period.
